7 HR Technology Lessons Learned During Covid

The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us many valuable lessons about HR technology. We’ve gathered insights from CEOs, founders and HR managers, who share their experiences ranging from focusing on employee well-being to adopting HR technology with ease. Dive into these lessons to better understand the role of HR technology during challenging times.

Focus On Employee Well-Being

The biggest lesson I learned about HR technology during Covid is that its best use is to promote well-being, not productivity. Systems like HRMS are often bought by companies to increase productivity and speed up business outcomes.

While HR technology can help achieve these goals, it takes focus away from employee well-being. Using HR tech tools to listen to employees, solve their issues or redirect them to the correct resources can have a great impact.

These keep the employees going and add to productivity and business outcomes. Automation for better well-being is the biggest lesson from the pandemic.

People Matter, Not Just Technology

The peak Covid years of 2020-2022 saw a massive spike in HR technology—both on the demand side as companies were investing in new platforms at unprecedented rates and on the supply side as VC investment exploded and new platforms came to market.

But as the dust settles from that era, it feels like technology wasn’t enough to solve many of the challenges that businesses faced. Many companies are telling us they have too many tools now and they aren’t getting used enough. The biggest complaint with HCM vendors today is not about their software but about their service teams.

The result was a lot of hype about technology but not enough focus on the people—both internally and at HR tech companies—to help deliver those solutions and maximize their potential.

Invest in HR Technology Infrastructure

With the shift to remote work and the need for social distancing, many HR processes that were previously done in person had to be moved online, including recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management. Companies that already had robust HR technology in place were better equipped to handle this transition, while those that didn’t struggle to keep up.

The pandemic highlighted the importance of HR technology, that allows for easy and effective communication and collaboration among remote teams. This includes tools for virtual meetings, project management and team collaboration.

Overall, the lesson learned is that investing in the right HR technology infrastructure can make a big difference in your organization’s ability to adapt to changing circumstances and remain competitive in a transforming world.

Embrace Remote Work and HR Tech

The pandemic taught us that remote work is no longer a perk, but a necessity. HR technology that enables remote work has become more critical than ever, and businesses need the right tools, such as video chat software, virtual onboarding platforms and messaging apps.

Companies should invest in HR technologies that can support remote work’s long-term effects, such as ensuring employee engagement and collaboration, improving wellness and productivity, and offering timely performance feedback. Embracing remote work and related HR technologies can help businesses stay resilient, competitive and innovative in post-pandemic times.

Ensure Up-to-Date HR Technology

The lesson I have taken away from this experience is that HR technology needs to keep up with the pace of change. During the pandemic, I have seen the impact of HR technology on the recruitment process and how it can influence the quality of hires.

The Covid-19 pandemic has driven the need for companies to be agile and to adapt their HR technology to changing circumstances quickly. Especially for companies that rely on outdated manual processes, this has been a hard lesson.

To keep up with the ever-changing demands of the modern workplace, companies need HR technology that’s up-to-date and robust. You need systems you can easily update and adapt to changing business needs. Doing so will help them stay competitive and ensure their employees feel supported and valued.

Design HR Tech for Users

While technology has been transforming HR for years, Covid-19 accelerated the need for technology to keep pace with the changes in the workforce. HR teams had to adapt to new HR tech solutions quickly, including video conferencing platforms, online training tools and virtual recruitment software. However, many organizations quickly discovered that the adoption of HR technology was not as smooth as they had hoped, and some employees struggled to adapt to the new tools.

The pandemic has also highlighted the importance of HR tech for employee engagement and well-being. With remote work, many employees experienced feelings of isolation and disconnection from their colleagues and the company culture. HR tech solutions can help keep employees connected and engaged regardless of their physical location.

With the rapid adoption of HR tech, companies must ensure that their technology is easy to use, effective and efficient. In other words, HR tech should be designed with the user in mind.

Adopt HR Technology With Ease

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the lesson we learned about HR technology is that adopting HR tech is easier than it seems. The pandemic has forced businesses to transition to remote work, and many have turned to HR technology solutions to help manage their remote teams.

This has shown that implementing HR tech is not as complex or time-consuming as some may think. With the right guidance and support, businesses can seamlessly integrate HR technology into their operations, improving efficiency and productivity.

It’s also a cost-effective way to manage HR processes and can save time and resources in the long run. As we move forward, we expect more companies to adopt HR technology solutions as remote work continues to be a part of the new normal.
